Founded by a native to Mystic, Connecticut, Dr. Justin Gauthier has returned to serve the very community that shaped him. GSC is grounded in a deep personal connection to the area and a mission to deliver expert surgical care to patients of all ages, insurances and referral sources.

A Path of Purpose

Dr. Gauthier’s journey into surgery began early—earning a medical scholarship at just 16 years old while attending Fitch High School in Groton, Connecticut. He went on to study at New York University, completing a double major in pre-med and pre-law, laying a strong academic foundation for a multidisciplinary approach to medicine.

Global Training, Local Impact

With a keen outlook of the world, Dr Gauthier pursued medical school as part of a Global Scholars Program beginning in Newcastle, England and then Grenada, West Indies.  He has traveled to over 44 countries to date, intent on bringing world class training back to his hometown.

Expertise in Action

He completed his surgical residency at Mount Sinai - South Nassau on Long Island, where he earned multiple operative skills awards for clinical excellence. Dr. Gauthier further specialized with a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine (Lawrence & Memorial Hospital).

A Dream Realized

Dr. Gauthier now has privileges in both the Yale system [YNHH] (Westerly and Lawrence & Memorial Hospitals) and Hartford Healthcare system [HHC] (Backus and Windham Hospitals) as well as River Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center. GSC’s founder yearns to fulfill his lifelong goal of providing advanced, compassionate surgical care to the community that raised him.
